Is it ok to vaccinate my puppy? Should I wait until my puppy is fully-grown before vaccinating them?

Vaccinations are completely safe for all canine patients, including puppies. Most of them experience little to no adverse reactions – which include fatigue and minor swelling at the injection area that subsides within a matter of hours. Delaying your puppy’s vaccination can actually put them under danger and leave them unprotected from several types of parasites and infectious diseases.

What kinds of vaccines does my puppy need?

Your puppy will be given both core and non-core vaccines. Core vaccines are required for all puppies (e.g., Bordetella, influenza, leptospirosis and rabies) while non-core vaccines are optional and given based on your puppy’s unique lifestyle. Your puppy will typically get their first round of vaccines at 6 weeks of age and need booster shots every 3 to 4 weeks until they reach 4 months of age.

Do adult and senior dogs still need vaccines?

Definitely. A common misconception is that once your puppy is grown, they are set for life and need no more vaccinations. In reality, your pet will need to get shots at least once per year or once every three years, depending on each vaccine. Unlike us humans, our pets need more treatments to ensure their immunity.

What happens if I do not vaccinate my dog?

No vaccinations will leave your pet vulnerable to several conditions and diseases that can bet detrimental to their health and that can even be fatal. This is a risk that is certainly not worth taking. In addition, some vaccines like the rabies shot are required by law.
